Transalper 18 Speed Mountaineering Backpack

What has proved its worth during the winter, should still work just fine in the summer, right? For the new Transalper 18 Speed Mountaineering Backpack, Dynafit borrowed from its ski touring packs to win points for speed mountaineering and hiking. A super idea, I think, since I really quite like the packs in the winter with their very intelligent system of pockets and compartments.

Impressive weight of a mere 220 grams

Then there is also a bottle holder on the left shoulder strap that always keeps your fluids within reach. In addition, there is a pocket for gels and other small essentials on the waist belt and a new pole attachment on the other side. The clasp at the chest is a freely adjustable stretch band that can be attached at different three points. The large compartment on your back offers a great deal of space, and there is also a mesh pocket over the large compartment. This is where I happily stash wet shirts I’ve changed out of.

Comfortable carry

The weight of a mere 220 grams is quite impressive. Even with that, you still get a fully featured daypack that is really quite comfortable to carry. The fit can also be individualized quite nicely, and the straps are very breathable.

After a few longer and more easygoing outings as well as some shorter, faster adventures, I am quite impressed with the Transalper 18 Backpack. For my tastes, the Safety Box could still be a little roomier so I can access my things there more easily. That is indeed the case with the winter packs. What I didn’t personally like so well was the SpeedBottle holder. The holder on the Transalper 18 backpack is made of neoprene. It indeed holds the bottle firmly, but after pulling it out, the neoprene makes it quite difficult to get the bottle back in. Just to mention that briefly in passing. Despite that, the Transalper 18 Backpack is really quite a fascinating pack for quick workouts and outings.

And that is precisely also a crucial point of the new packs for summer. Here it is essential to point out a pocket that sits below and crosswise to the large compartment -- the Safety Box. In the winter, it is intended for crampons. Of course, you can also pack things in there in the summer too. To me, it is however a perfectly engineered multifunctional compartment. That is where I stow my camera, my gloves, a cap, etc. Everything that I may want to access quickly without taking off the pack.
