Before heading out, your equipment must be ready to go. Transitioning, climbing mode, and setting the proper pole length, as well as stepping into pin bindings are all a part of it. Climbing

The right technique saves energy on the climb. To that end, going uphill with touring skis works a little differently than on foot. Basic tips for body posture, when to use risers on your heels, binding details, and a step-by-step description of kick turns means the next uphill is a piece of cake:

Descending

So, you’ve conquered the climb and now comes your reward: Before you head back to the valley a little conversion is demanded: Skins are removed, and the ski touring boots and pin bindings are readjusted for the descent.
