How to Trail Run: Performance diagnostics

The world of sports science is more than complex so we’re going to explain everything you need to know in our new “How to Trail Run” series. Find out about performance data, ideal training planning, and race preparation. In this video, you will find out how you can better understand your personal strengths and weaknesses with the help of performance diagnostics as explained by sport scientist Lukas. Then you can understand why this is the first step to setting a training plan.

Bioimpedance analysis

This measurement is done prior to the actual performance diagnostics and determines your body’s composition. This is where you gain the knowledge about how much muscle mass, fat mass, and body water you have.

Performance diagnostics

In this analysis on a treadmill, a staged test is performed where the speed at each level is increased by 1.5 kph every three minutes.

In order to find your personal performance data, after every level a drop of blood is taken from your earlobe to determine your lactate concentration. With the help of a face mask and chest strap, both your respiratory gas analysis and your heartrate are measured. Your perceived level of effort is also estimated using a Borg scale.

Where can you go to get your performance values determined? Visit our DYNAFIT Athlete Center at Lake Chiemsee, Germany, and book an individual appointment.

Key figures

The performance diagnostics delivers important data which you can use to plan your ideal training. These are the parameters to get a closer look at:

• Aerobic and anerobic threshold

• Energy metabolism

• Vo2 Max

• Training levels

The precise interpretation of these results can be found in the video, plus our experts at the Athlete Center will help in data analysis.

Have you successfully completed your performance diagnostics? Then you can fully focus on planning your training. How that works and what you have to be aware of is what we will explain in our next article. Note that you should complete new performance diagnostic tests at regular intervals in order to monitor your training progress.
