Yesterday we left to go to the World Championships taking place in Claut, Italy, from 17 to 24 of February.
Of the altogether five races, I am going to compete in the following four: Sprint/Vertical Race/Individual/Relay (the 5th race is for teams).
Out of all the races, the Sprints is the one that least appeals to me, since the "luck" factor is such a big influence and it is not a fair race because it starts in a row of 6 sprinters. It is too aggressive a race for my taste although the type of effort itself (3’ of sprint) doesn’t bother me!
My two big goals for these Championships are the Vertical Race and the Individuals; so far the season is going very well, I feel that I'm in good shape, which is giving me hope.
The individual race is going to be a tough and technical race. Last year, a world cup championship was celebrated in which I reached second place, a fact that let me have an idea of how the race is going to be, if the weather is good: a very euphoric race, with very complicated slopes, a lot of dips and, in general, very tricky.
The Relay is the classical race that always closes the Championships. Last year, we made 4th position alongside with Gemma Arró and Tina Bes. So the expectations are open because everyone is usually tired when it’s time for this last race.
Keep in mind that what makes these championships special is that they are celebrated on a single date for the entire season. We have to be ok for one day and that’s it; but also those 5 races are celebrated in one week, therefore it’s not only a question of getting there in good shape, but also managing the effort and recovering from one race to the other. In the two years that I have been participating in the senior category I have not yet had one good Championship, so the challenge lies in front of me and I am going for it! :-)
