In memoriam Cedric Hählen
Cedric Hählen from Aargau, the Austrian Gerfried Göschl and the Pakistani Nisar Hussain were seen on the 9th of March 2012 on Gasherbrum I /HiddenPeak at about 7800 metres for the last time. Since that day they are missed and although there is always a spark of hope – we have to lay him to rest. Cedric was a much-loved, fun and very kind adventurer who has finished several successful first ascents and expeditions at the age of only 30 years.
The enthusiasm for mountains was something that he was born with. His parents who also are mountaineers took their youngest son to several trips through the mountains ofSwitzerland. Cedric climbed on the Aconcagua (6.962m) for three times before he reached the peak of the almightyK2(8.611m). The young Swiss was fascinated byPakistanand in 2005 he travelled to the East peak of the K7 which was never been ascent before. Only four days before departure the permit was detracted. In spite of this setback Cedric and his team did a first ascent on the Farol (6.370m).
In summer 2009 Cedric showed his helpfulness on theBroadPeak. In his self-forgetting way he helped Benedikt Böhm to take his weak friend and Colleague Basti Haag over wide-range to get out of the death-zone.
He achieved several successful expeditions as climbing up the Kangchendzöna (8.586 m) before he started to the Gasherbrum I /HiddenPeakin January 2012. The weather was very bad at theGasherbrumand for a long time it wasn’t sure if it’s possible to start to the peak.
„Cedric always told us: If something will happen to me on one of my beloved mountains so leave me there. I don’t want anybody to risk their lives for me. We will respect his wish – and we will let Cedric rest on his beloved mountains.” (http://www.expeditionsnews.ch/v3/)
The whole team of DYNAFIT thinks of his friend Michaela, his family and of his friends. For this hard time we wish them strength and hope. We are thankful to know such an amazing person and friend.
