Haakon Klerud Johannessen - National Athlete Team - Norway

Haakon Klerud’s ...
...... first experiences in the sport?

I have done ski-touring, for about 5 years now. I have amazing opportunities in the mountains around my home town Molde. Only one hour driving from my house I find can find mountains like kirketaket and romsdalshorn. But my first competition in ski-mountaineering was about two years ago. I had only been doing ski-touring before that. The competition did go well and I won the cadet class, since then I have been addicted to the sport. And last years was a trial season that did go well for me, so this year I’m going for it!

...... favorite DYNAFIT gear?

The new Dy.N.A ski, it gives an incredible good flow in the powder for a ski at that size, and in the hard conditions it sits like glue in every turn I take. It is incredible how good the new ski is.

...... sportive successes he’s proud of?

I’m happy every time I do a good race, where I have pushed me to the limit and I know with myself that I can’t get a better result. But the race I have been most happy with is the Norwegian championships in 2012. I did a good race, and finish 9 in my first year as a ski-mountaineer and senior.

...... fascination in sport?

To be able to walk faster up the hill then the other guys on the mountain, and ski faster and better down then they do.

...... key training tips?

Training isn’t always fun, but don’t give up then. Be smart with you training, plan the workouts and do as the plan says. Concentrate on what you shooed do on every hard work out, and have fun on the ski-touring trips. Team mates are good to have, so get many of them.

Fireman

...... vision for the future?

I don’t really know what my future brings me, I live my life as the comes to me. But I will love to try some of the big classic ski-mountaineering’s competition like the Pirra menta. I also hope that other Norwegians will see the joy in ski-mountaineering competitions and that we soon will have a big and strong Nation team.
