Snow Leopard Day 2013

8/2/13

1 METRE – 1 CENT – 9 COUNTRIES – 12 HOURS

ON A MISSION FOR THE SNOW LEOPARDS

Leading ski touring supplier DYNAFIT is, for the fourth time now, calling out to all passionate ski touring athletes to rack up the vertical metres in an event dedicated to the snow leopard. DYNAFIT pledges to match the figure of vertical metres recorded by participants with a donation to the Snow Leopard Trust. And don’t sweat – nobody is demanding spectacular speed and stamina here! Beginners and pros alike are all warmly invited to help us get the donation figure up sky high.

The area covered by the snow leopard's natural habitat is shrinking every day. The population figures for wild snow leopards is estimated at between 4,300 and 7,200. Illegal hunting and the decimation of their natural habitat are putting the snow leopard at ever greater risk. Since 1981, the Snow Leopard Trust has been trying to protect the remaining leopards. It undertakes research on these feline predators, today an endangered species. The organisation carries out projects in China, India, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and Pakistan. Working with communities who live alongside the snow leopard in mountainous regions, the Trust is committed to providing a boost to the animal’s natural habitat. DYNAFIT feels a strong connection with this graceful creature and, as project partner, is firmly focused on providing sustainable support to the snow leopards.

Invitations to celebrate Snow Leopard Day between 09 February and 07 April 2013 come from nine countries: Germany, France, Greece, Italy, Japan, Austria, Rumania, Switzerland and Slovenia. This period is all about one thing: participants snapping on their touring skis to record as many vertical metres as is humanly possible. Every metre covered is matched by a donation from DYNAFIT which is passed on to Dynafit’s partner of many years, the Snow Leopard Trust. One cent goes into the pot for every vertical metre on the board! Signs with information on the snow leopard and its natural habitat are positioned along the route – good reading material when taking a blow.

All interested participants are welcome to enter – every metre counts!
